The Story of Gianduia

First created in Turin in 1806 when the Napoleonic trade blockade made cocoa scarce, resourceful Piedmontese confectioners blended what little cocoa they had with the region's abundant, prized Tonda Gentile hazelnuts. The result — Gianduia — became one of Italy's most beloved culinary creations, and the inspiration for Nutella.
