Vinum Vitae Est Langhe Nascetta DOC 2022

Product Info

Nascetta is one of Piedmont's rarest native white grapes, historically associated with the village of Novello in the Langhe and revived in recent decades by local producers. This Langhe DOC from the Vinum Vitae Est range is made from 100% Nascetta grown on clay and sandy soils, hand-harvested in the second half of September.

After destemming and crushing, the juice ferments at a cool 16-18°C and the wine then spends around five months in stainless steel on its lees, adding texture and richness. In the glass it is straw yellow, with a nose of good intensity showing floral and citrus aromas that set Nascetta apart from more neutral Italian whites. The palate is fresh, sapid and savoury, with a lingering finish. At 13.5% ABV it has real presence and can develop in bottle for a few years.

Serve at 8-10°C. It is a great match for appetisers and first courses, cooked or raw seafood and fresh cheeses, and a rewarding choice for anyone wanting a white that is a little different from the usual Pinot Grigio or Chardonnay.

About the producer

Terre del Barolo is a growers' cooperative based in Castiglione Falletto, founded in 1958 by local schoolteacher and mayor Arnaldo Rivera. Today around 300 member growers farm more than 600 hectares across the eleven villages of the Barolo appellation, and every wine is made exclusively from Langhe grapes. Vinum Vitae Est ("wine is life"), or VVE, is the cooperative's signature range.

About the region

The Langhe sits in Piedmont, in Italy's north-west, around the town of Alba. Its steep, rolling vineyard hills are home to Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto, and the area is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage wine landscape.
